Dre Bulluck, originally from North Carolina, moved from Buffalo, New York at a young age. His wife, Patricia Bulluck, was born in Memphis, TN, raised in Akron, OH, and moved to Georgia at 33 years of age, where fate brought them together. Since then, life has been filled with adventures and a shared passion for great food. Their love for cooking has been a constant in their lives, and Dre, in particular, has always been drawn to the rich traditions of Eastern North Carolina-style BBQ. Growing up, his father introduced him to the craft, and Dre has been perfecting it ever since.
My love for cooking started early, deeply influenced by my father’s passion for barbecue. He taught me the importance of using quality ingredients, paying attention to every detail, and the joy of bringing people together around a great meal. In 1983, I earned my culinary degree from The Marriott Institute, where I developed the skills and discipline to take my cooking to the next level. But even with all the formal training, barbecue has always been where my heart lies.
So, what makes Eastern North Carolina barbecue stand out? It’s all about simplicity, tradition, and letting the meat speak for itself. Known for its tangy, vinegar-based sauce and whole-hog preparation, this style of barbecue is a true labor of love. At Dre’s Place BBQ, we slow-cook our meats with the utmost care, then chop or pull them into delicious, mouthwatering dishes. While many cook meat over heat, few truly understand the art of real barbecue. But after over 25 years of perfecting my craft, I can confidently say that I’ve mastered it.
